Stop Procrastination

Medicine can take over your life so that you find you are putting off doing important things in your life until some mythical time when you’re not so busy. However small the first step, decide what it is, and do it. Once you start a task it’s easier to continue.

Yes of course there are things which you may prefer to do in big chunks of time and these have to be planned. But there are usually ways to prepare to do more.

Free up some emotional and physical space by throwing away what you no longer love or need such as out of date medical journals and old textbooks.

Organise a decent filing system for what you must keep so that you can clear your surfaces and your cupboards.

A common reason for procrastination and not taking the action you must take for change is believing that others would be affected or offended by what you do, so instead of having the life you truly want you remain stuck. What is more important you or the others? If you can communicate clearly what you want you may be surprised that the others will co-operate with you.

Take a look at what you consider might be holding you back. Is there a way forward which would fulfill what you want and not upset others too much?

Can you find a win-win solution both to achieve your goal and keep the others happy too? It’s vital so you can continue to enjoy working as a doctor while also addressing your won needs for work life balance and living the life you truly want too.
