Sometimes, being a doctor and trying to find a good work life balance can seem to be not only impossible to achieve but also very stressful. Both you and others may wonder how you keep going with so much to do and so little time to do it. It seems as though having managing your time to pursue your own interests has become an impossible task. Your family may think you neglect them and as far as any social life with friends or keeping fit or pursuing a hobby, then you have had to let those things go, because there is always too much to do each day.
Over the past few years there have been even more challenges to increase your stress:
• your new contract
• lack of work life balance
• keeping up to date
• excessive demands on your time
• insufficient funding to get the work done
• unrealistic demands from managers
• mountains of paperwork or computer inputting
• clutter both personal and professional
• complaints from patients and colleagues as well as family and friends
• piles of un-read medical journals
• a full Inbox
• too little time with family or friends
• unable to ‘switch off’ when on holiday
• taking work home most days
